Building Committee Update
Presented to General Assembly November 13, 2011
December, 2010
· Sent contract to Stephen Papadatos
· Nick Furris sent letters to the local architects we did not choose
· Steven asked The Committee to revisit the space program and prioritize our needs
January-March, 2011
· The Committee had several meetings with KBJ along with a local contractor (Danis) to give us preliminary costs on the Church and administration building/Family Life Center. Note: Danis was brought in by KBJ with no cost or obligation to the Church.
April – August, 2011
The Committee spent many hours analyzing our space program and the preliminary design of the Church and especially the Family Life Center (FLC). Examples of some thoughts The Committee had are as follows:
· Permanent seating in the Church should be reduced to 550-625.
· Investigate moving bell tower to other side
· Restroom in the altar
· The hall in the FLC is too small. Should be large enough to seat approximately 350 people.
· A choir room is a must
During this time, Steven Papadatos redesigned the Church to a crucifix design, which was unanimously approved by The Committee and Metropolitan Alexios.
Also during this time, Michael Antonopoulos prepared a “bubble plan” of the FLC that showed how our community “lives.” The Committee spent several meetings reviewing this plan. In July, Nick Furris hand delivered the bubble plan and accompanying written description to Steven Papadatos. Steven then sent back a revised plan for the FLC. After reviewing the revised plan, The Committee decided it would be beneficial for Steven to come down. This would be much more efficient that trying to convey The Committee’s comments through Nick Furris.
September, 2011
On September 22, 2010, The Committee met with Steven Papadatos along with representatives from KBJ concerning the design of the FLC. This was a very productive meeting as The Committee was able to convey their thoughts directly to Steven and KBJ.
October, 2011
On October 10, 2010, The Committee met with Tom Rensing of KBJ. Tom was there to present Steven’s latest design of the FLC. The new conceptual design was accepted by The Committee for ongoing review.
